If you want to buy things but do not have the money to afford them, then you might decide that you want to save up for it. This can be a good idea but you need to think about how you will do this. You will probably want to buy the item really quickly, but this means that you will need to save up really quickly as well and so you will need to think about how you will be able to do this.
It can be a good idea to think about whether you can reduce the amount of things that you are buying to save money. It is not easy to do this, but because you have a specific goal in mind and know that you will not have to give up these items forever, it might be easier. So, when you are shopping think about every item that you are buying and whether you really need it. For example, if you are buying food, consider whether you can manage with what you have in the cupboards or freezer. If you are buying clothes, think about whether you can make do with the items that you have, rather than buying new things right away. Some people might be able to cut down quite significantly and save a lot of money, but this will depend on how much you normally buy and whether you spend a lot of necessities which you cannot reduce or whether you spend a lot on luxury items that you can give up entirely or at least cut back on.
There will be items that you will still have to buy, but you may be able to reduce the amount of money that you are paying for them. For example, it is a good idea to check your utility supplier to see if you could swap to a cheaper one as well as your insurers and lenders. Also look at things like food, where you might be able to change to a different retailer or brand to save money. It is always good to compare prices on everything you buy and then if you spend less for lots of items then you could end up saving a significant amount of money.
It may not be enough to spend less money as you may want to be able to get more money that this. One way that you can do this is to sell things that you own that you no longer use or need. These can be any items such as clothing, jewellery, homewares, books etc and you might be able to raise quite a bit of money. There are plenty of places that you can go to sell these items such as social media groups, boot sale apps, car boot sales and things like this. You might not be able to get loads for each item, but it will all add up and you will be able to add it to your pot of savings.
It might be that you will need to think of ways that you can earn more money. There are lots of things that you can potentially do to earn more and you will need to find something that will suit you. For example, it can be a good idea to think about whether you can earn more from your current job by taking on more hours, take on a second job or whether you would rather do something form home. There is work to be found online and offline, to do from home and outside of the home so you should be able to find something that will suit you really well.
